About

MY APPROACH

I work collaboratively with individuals on a wide range of short and long-term concerns including anxiety, midlife transitions, loneliness, grief and depression. In addition, I have a deep interest in existential issues such as finding meaning in life and what it means to live a fulfilled life.

Clients in relationships may be experiencing conflict or feeling stuck in negative patterns, and require help to initiate change.

In the short term, we may look for practical ways to alleviate symptoms. In subsequent sessions, we may also delve into your past to understand patterns forged long ago that might have become obstacles and work on replacing these with more helpful ways of living.

It can be difficult to be vulnerable with others. I have been told that I am a warm, authentic and down-to-earth person, who may use humour when it’s appropriate. I am here to help uncover and encourage your strengths as I believe that each person is capable of making changes to live a more fulfilled life.

My approach is integrative and client-centred. This means I combine ideas and techniques from different therapeutic schools depending on the individual needs of each client. I am trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS), which offers a non-pathologizing and collaborative approach to therapy and relies on clients’ intuitive wisdom. I am also strongly influenced by the teachings of Alfred Adler and Adlerian therapy, which stresses each person’s need for connection and belonging. I also draw on Cognitive-behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), attachment theory, and Jungian thought.

My work is LGBTQ2-affirming and trauma-informed, meaning I bring an understanding of experiences that overwhelm a person’s capacity to cope and prioritize safety, choice, and control.

ABOUT NICOLE MORDANT, RCC, MCP, MBA

Nicole Mordant Registered Clinical Counsellor, Vancouver

I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with a Master of Counselling Psychology (MCP) degree from Adler University. I live and work in Vancouver, BC, and have called this beautiful city home for the past 20 years.

Before making a career change to counselling, I was a journalist for 20 years both in Canada and South Africa. This has made me a good listener, interested in people’s life stories and able to communicate effectively and comfortably with people from many walks of life. As primarily a business journalist, I am familiar with the stresses of the workplace. Academically, I also hold a Bachelor of Arts (BA) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree.

I am also a spouse, an immigrant and a member of the “sandwich generation”, which in my case involves being a mother to two teenage sons while providing support to two elderly parents.
